Better Box Reveal: August 2020
In Azul, players take turns selecting tiles placed out in piles. You can select all of a color from any pile and the remaining go in the center to start a new pile. Next you stack your tiles on your board trying to complete rows. At the end of each round, you can move one tile from completed rows over to the score board.
There are a ton of decisions to make when selecting and placing tiles. Do you try to grab the big stack to finish off your biggest row, or do you grab a smaller stack and try to stack up the center with the tiles you need more of and hope it comes back around with more? If you get more tiles than you can place in your row, the rest are lost and count as negative points in the round.
End of the round scoring can be a bit tricky, but after your first few rounds you are sure to get the hang of it. And once you do, you will for sure find yourself playing this more than once. You can even flip your player boards over for a different scoring mechanic and try something completely different.
So, if your thinking caps are ready, peel open the game and enjoy a wonderful Game Night full of beautiful tiles and some decision making. With Random tiles coming out every round, your strategy has to go with the flow. Risk it all and go big for glory. Or play slow and steady to win the race. The choice is yours!
